AAC welcomes Council Accredited Certifiers
1 March 2010 marked a new era in the certification of buildings in New South Wales. It is the first step toward a single system of accreditation for all certifiers, for which the Association of Accredited Certifiers (AAC) has long campaigned. The AAC sees the expanded system as a positive change for all certifiers.

We look forward to this new era of professionalism and cooperation, which includes minimum standards for qualifications, experience and professional development and has all certifiers working to the same code of conduct and accountability.

The three-year transition provides time for both council and private sector certifiers to adjust to the new regime. This transition period gives council certifiers reduced accreditation fees and a phased in CPD commitment, however by 2013 all certifiers will be required to complete the same amount CPD. The Building Professionals Board (BPB) is now reviewing the annual fees for accredited certifiers working in the private sector and is looking at ways to make the fees more equitable.

We are confident that most council certifiers will embrace the opportunities to access quality education and professional development that accreditation brings.

The AAC believes the broader industry and community will also welcome the improvements to safety and the quality of buildings that the new system will bring.

The AAC currently offers services and support all certifiers, whether in the private or public sector and we are keen to offer assistance to our council certifier colleagues as they adjust to the new system, and we encourage all members to do the same.

AAC President
